WELCOME TO K9XC 2022

We cordially invite you to participate in the 1st annual K9XC 5K Race and Family 1 Mile Walk/Run. This event will raise money for the Delavan High School Cross Country Teams.  We are excited to introduce Canicross to Central Illinois!  Canicross is a mashup of the words “canine” and “cross country” and is a team sport consisting of a person and dog who run together. Typically, the person wears a waist belt, the dog a specifically designed harness, and the two are joined by an elastic line that reduces shock to both the person and dog when the dog pulls.  More traditional collars and leashes are also appropriate for those who are just starting out. This is an activity that can be enjoyed by all levels and abilities. For those who take the sport more seriously, a true canicross setup will increase a runner’s speed due to the pulling action of their dog.

We want this to be a fun experience for both you and your dog so we encourage you to come out and try out this sport.  This will have its own event so you can participate against other human/dog teams. While it can be competitive we just want everyone to have fun, no matter what level you or your pup are. If you really want to challenge yourself you can do the canicross race with your dog first and then the regular trail run after—or vice versa!

The event will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at McCrea-LaFary Farms 3 miles north of Delavan, IL. The 5k course is a very challenging (hills, creek crossings, logs, and hay bales) cross country course that will be all on dirt and grass trails.  The event will kick off at 8:00 a.m. with the very challenging and competitive 5k for runners with and without dogs. The family 1-mile Fun Run/Walk will follow at 8:10 a.m. Once again you are encouraged to bring your dog along.

Registration is now open.  Click here to sign up.

FAQ

Q1: WHAT IS THE K9XC RACE?
A1: The K9XC 5k annual race, where dog owner or dog handler & canine partner come together to test their bond and stamina over a tough 5k cross country course with numerous challenges. This course is not easy!  You do not need to have a dog to race.

Q2: WHEN IS THE RACE?
A2: The 2022 K9XC will be held on Saturday, June 25th, 2022, with a limited number of registrations available. There is an early packet pickup Friday evening.

Q3: IS FOOD PROVIDED WITH RUNNER REGISTRATION?
A3: Each runner will receive snacks before and after the race.  We will even have dog treats!

Q4: CAN I BRING MY CAMPER AND CAMP ON SITE?
A4: Yes, we will  have a RV & Tent park area for those that would like to camp.

Q5: WILL CAMPING INCLUDE ANY AMENITIES?
A5: Overnight campers should plan for “dry camping”. You should plan to bring your own sources of electricity and water as resources will be limited. There will be porta potties near the race course.

Q6: WHAT DO YOU WIN?
A6: Besides bragging rights….All those that complete the challenging course receive a t-shirt, race bag, and an official time.  Awesome overall and age group awards for those racing with and without dogs.

Q7: WHERE DO I PICKUP MY RACE PACKET?
A7: Early packet pickup will occur on Friday, June 24th at the start/finishline site.

On Saturday, June 25th we’ll have pre-race packet pickup at the registration area starting at 6:30 AM and continuing through 8:00.

Q8: ARE STROLLERS ALLOWED ON THE COURSE?
A8: No wheeled conveyances or pets other than canines of any kind are allowed on the course, including (but not limited to) cats, mice, parrots, ferrets, gerbils, snakes or lizards. You can bring your stroller into the spectator area, but no pets please!

Q9: WHERE DO I PARK?
A9: There will be well marked parking at the event. Parking is only a 100 yards from the starting line.
For those bringing RV’s and Tents, you will be directed to the campground parking areas.

Q10: WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?
A10: You get wet. I mean, seriously, this isn’t NASCAR, we don’t stop and dry out the course. A little (or a lot) of rain just makes it more of a challenge.

Q11: I SIGNED UP BUT CAN’T ATTEND, CAN I GET A REFUND?
A11: Sorry, no refunds under any circumstances. No race transfers are available. If you want a friend to pick up your race packet, they must have a letter from you giving them permission and a copy of your identification.

Q12: WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
A12:
1. “A good” attitude.  This course will challenge you.
2. A change of clothes.  We have a pond you can wash off in...
3. Bug spray.
4. A portable kennel may be a good idea if camping / RV and staying for evening function, that way we know your dog is secure when resting / wanting a break from the festivities.
5. Camping Gear if camping. This will be a dry-camping setup.
6. If camping you may wish to do some catch and release fishing.
7. Dog Bowl and water.
8. Dog food if staying the evening.
9. Warm blankets for your dog if staying the evening.
10. A garbage bag to sit on if you decide to roll with the muddy look on the way home!
11. Sturdy collar/harness and leash.

12. Trash bags.  Take out what you bring in.
